Scheduled on March 31 - April 3, 2011. The TLBF (as the festival is popularly called) will be held in Ormoc City, where the TLBF started.

The TLBF has prided itself as having a streak that no one has ever lost his/her bike during the festival.

Unfortunately, that streak was broken this year. A very good friend lost his bike last April 5 (early April 6).

Please find a picture of his bike... It's a Banshee Legend MK1.

Its tragic that someone took advantage of the situation and took off with the bike, but we're trying our best to find it.

Since we noticed the bike was missing, we've gone overtime and tried to look for the bike.

We need your help in locating it. Please take note of the parts... You might find someone selling parts which belong to the bike.

Please email us if you have info. We're offering a reward for the recovery of the bike!

Things are pretty set for the 2009 FilBike Bicycle Expo.

   For this year, we were able to pull off a coup of sorts by being able to invite not one, but four well known personalities in the cycling industry..

   Trivia: In 2006, when Hans Rey came to the Philippines, it was the first time in the foundation's history where he personally turned over to recipients bikes. Some of the recipients were people who were affected by the deadly Southern Leyte landslide.

Bike fitting services during the TLBF

We're happy to announce that from April 2-5, 2009, at FilBike Bike Expo located at the Subic International Convention Center, Bike Town Cyclery will have available bike fitting services. Fitting services will be from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. daily..

Bike fitting services include two fitting systems: www.bikefitting.com and The Bike Fit System of Paul Swift. Cyclists get the benefits of two fit systems from both sides of the Atlantic. This allows us to fine-tune your measurements to your specific riding requirements.

Hans Rey's new bike for the TLBF

Hans' "No Way" Rey has been riding for what seems like centuries! in 2006, Hans came to the Philippines to join the 2006 TLBF and do a ride in the Banawe rice terraces..

Hans will be again coming back to the Philippines to join the 2009 TLBF!

Launched the on-line registration today, and in a span of a few hours, we already have entries from Dubai, Australia, and from different provinces in the Philippines. NICE!!!

Just remember, when you register, you'll get a confirmation email from us, with a CONTROL NUMBER as reference when you confirm your registration at the Subic Convention Center.

Sending out out confirmation emails will done on a weekly basis.

Building a 4X and pump track

Update on the courses to be used for the 2009 TLBF..

Our good friends Paqui G., Marty G., and Jun L. of APRELAC have been super cool in helping us build a pump track for the Festvial, which we'll use for the "No Chains Challenge". Super thanks to these guys who've gone the extra mile to help out and build the MTB courses..

2009 TLBF Updates 1 - Registration information for the 2009 TLBF

Hi everyone,

Registration for the 2009 Terry Larrazabal Bike Festival is now officially open... In fact we already received registration forms yesterday..

REGISTRATION PERIOD IS FROM JANUARY 25 TO MARCH 21. NO ON-SITE REGISTRATION!

Mechanics are simple:
1. Participants may download the registration forms from our website: www.tlbr.org. The form is available either in PDF or Word file format.

2. Participants may also choose to get and fill up their registration forms at TLBF Registration Centers (please email pinoybikes@gmail.com for a list):

3. Upon filling up the form, the participant may submit the form by:
3.a. Emailing the form to pinoybikes@gmail.com
3.b. Submitting it to a TLBF Registration Center

4. If submitted by email, the participant will be called by the organizers to verify the information and provide the details on how & where the registration fee can be deposited. Upon confirmation of deposit, the participant will be called by the organizers to be given a "CONTROL NUMBER".

5. If submitted to a Registration Center, the participant shall remit the registration fee to the shop.
5.a. Upon payment of the registration fee, the participant will be given a verification stub, which is the lower portion on the registration form. The stub contains an acknowledgement receipt that the amount has been paid for, and the person has submitted his registration form.

6. All TLBF participants are required to CONFIRM their registration ON-SITE at the Subic Convention Center, on April 2, 2009, or at least a day before the event/competition he/she is to join...

NO CONFIRMATION OF REGISTRATION IS ALLOWED ON THE DAY OF THE EVENT/COMPETITION.

7. Upon verification of registration, the organizers will require the stub to be submitted (part of the verification process). Participants are required to bring a valid I.D. with a picture. The I.D. must contain the participants' photo and date of birth.

NON-COMPLIANCE WITH THIS IS GROUND FOR THE CANCELLATION OF THE REGISTRATION. FEES PAID IS NON-REFUNDABLE.

THERE SHALL BE 4 COMPUTER PROGRAMMERS WHO SHALL PROCESS ALL REGISTRATIONS. SO REST ASSURED, THINGS WILL BE PROCESSED IN A SPEEDY AND ORDERLY MANNER.

8. Upon completion of the registration process, TLBF participants shall then be given their loot/goodie bag, and race number. Each participants will also be given his/her meal stub for the meal during the awarding ceremonies on April 5 (only one free meal is provided for). A RAFFLE STUB shall also be given to each participant... Please make sure you do not loose this..

UPON COMPLETION OF THE REGISTRATION PROCESS, ALL TLBF PARTICIPANTS ARE REQUIRED TO SIGN A WAIVER.

9. On April 2, 3 & 4, at 7:00 p.m. at the Subic Convention Center, there will be a Technical Managers meeting. Race regulations/guidelines for the competitions the day after will be discussed. Competitors are strictly required to attend the said meeting to make sure all questions/queries are addressed BEFORE the race.

THE TECHNICAL MEETING WILL BE CONDUCTED BY THE EVENT/RACE DIRECTOR.

10. After the nightly Technical Managers meeting, we'll also have a raffle for TLBF participants present during the meeting... We'll give away goodies like bike parts, etc. Only those present when their name is called are qualified to win.

11. Registration Center / Secretariat / Info Center is located at the Subic Convention Center. All questions will be addressed there.

12. We will also have billboards in strategic locations in Subic which provide information on races and activities during the festival.

13. The local FM radio station will also be periodically broadcasting updates/news to keep TLBF participants updated/informed.

14. All TLBF participants automatically are allowed entrance to FilBike Bicycle and Outdoor Expo.

SBMA 100% behind the TLBF

The Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority, which runs the Subic Bay Freeport Zone (venue of the TLBF), signified it's unwavering support for the 2009 Terry Larrazabal Bike Festival. SBMA Administrator Armand Arreza (white shirt in the picture below), during a meeting to discuss the 2009 TLBF, re-iterated SBMA's firm commitment in support of the festival, promising the full cooperation of SBMA for the continued success of the festival.

SBMA and the TLBF is likewise undertaking a multi-year program to develop and maximize the potential of Subic to be a premier destination for roadies, mountain bikers, trial riders, BMX riders and triathletes.

Hans Rey coming to the 2009 TLBF

Just spoke with cycling legend Hans Rey, and he confirmed that he'll be attending and participating in the 2009 TLBF! Hans has been active in his charity, Wheels 4 Life. A number of bicycles were given away several countries.

Little trivia about Wheels 4 Life. Hans Rey gave away bicycles to residents in Southern Leyte who were affected by the devastating landslide which killed thousands of people.. The donation was coursed through the Archbishop of Southern Leyte. It was the first donation of bicycles of Wheels 4 Life wherein Hans himself handed over the bicycles to the beneficiaries.

TLBF going to the 2009 North American Handmade Bicycle Show!

We at the TLBF love bikes! That's pretty much the understatement of the year! And what better place to soak up and enjoy some of the most beautiful bikes in the world, than to attend the North American Handmade Bicycle Show (NAHBS)? Scheduled on February 27 - March 1 in Indianapolis, Indiana, I'll be flying to the US to attend the show.

I'll be flying out from Manila, Philippines on board Philippine Airlines (www.philippineairlines.com) and will be meeting Jeremy of Sycip bikes (www.sycip.com) and hang with the cool guys at Sycip during the show. Looking forward to the bike builds and meeting some friends during the show!

I'll have to fly back to the Philippines immediately after the show to make sure the preparations are all set in place for the 2009 TLBF, which will be about a month after the NAHBS.

Sights set for 2009 TLBF

Welcome to the TLBF blog... We'll be posting updates and news about the festival here. We also have a website, www.tlbf.org.

Things are going along pretty well. We have the full support of the Department of Tourism, and the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority. Everyone's pretty excited and looking forward to the 2009 TLBF, which will be held on April 2-5, 2009, at Subic.

We'll be building the courses for the different mountain bike races starting next month... Right after the holidays.

Now it's time to eat, ride, eat, party, eat, ride, and eat some more!

Who is TERRY LARRAZABAL?

Every cause must have a reason. For the past seven years the Terry Larrazabal Bike Festival has been in honor of a man who has lived in an unobtrusive way.

Born the eldest boy of a family of seven on April 4, 1938 to the late Potenciano Larrazabal and Aniceta Veloso, Terry, as he was fondly called, lived his life devoid of the glitter of fame and fortune of which his family was blessed. Wealth and honor never got the better of him. He lived a simple life, married in September 24, 1961 to an equally simple lady in the person of Adelina Yrastorza, he begot eight children whom he brought up frugally, instilling in them proper family values centering around family solidarity. He was a father overly generous to his children almost to a fault. He was a loving husband and a good provider to his family, being a sugar planter and a businessman in his own right.

Terry was not an ambitious man. By force of circumstances, however, he accepted the position as OIC Mayor of Ormoc after the EDSA revolution, having been appointed by then President Corazon Aquino. That proved the beginning of his political life. Political fame, however, was not his to achieve. Quietly as he had lived, he passed away on December 9, 1999, a victim of lung cancer.

Next year marks the seventh time that the Terry Larrazabal Bike Festival is held to cultivate in the youth an aptitude for physical power through a sport, which caters to the young and not so young, rich and poor alike. It is the hope of the family that this legacy will pass on as the years go, in humble remembrance of a man worthy of emulation.
